A former musician, Chris originally hoped to pursue dreams of performing. After a hand injury thwarted his chances, he chose to launch a company organising live music events around the world. Chris found himself playing from the sidelines, but he took everything he learnt from music and successfully transferred these skills into running a business.
A decade in the music industry and two companies later, Chris had developed a strong entrepreneurial mindset, but there was one problem he found overcomplicating his business circulation - he put it simply to us, “One of the things I found in the music business was that musicians spend an awful lot of time getting lost.”
He needed a simple and innovative solution to revolutionise mapping. He enlisted the help of his mathematician friend, Mohan Ganesalingam, and together they formed an algorithm to assign 40,000 words to every 3m square across the globe.
In this interview for Business Lives, Chris explains the intricacies of What 3 Words - forming the concept, aiding humanitarian organisations, and how he hopes to to expand universally.
