Dev Clever  (AIM:DEV FOLLOW) has launched PubPal, a mobile and contactless ordering and payment service to support the hospitality sector as operators start to reopen as the COVID-19 lockdown eases.

PubPal, which is a Software-as-a-Service ("SaaS") platform, was launched by Dev’s Agency Services division and has been designed as a stand-alone ordering and payment solution.

The AIM-listed developer said the service provides venue operators with a light touch mobile ordering system that doesn't require clients to download a mobile app, thereby reducing the need for physical interaction between pub goers and employees.

PubPal enables contactless ordering that is easily implemented across independent venues with no upfront cost or need to have a compatible Electronic Point of Sale, the group noted.

Pub and venue goers are able to scan a QR code from table cards to view the venue's menu; select the items they want to order and then pay directly from their mobile phones.

Shares in Dev Clever closed at 7.52p on Wednesday afternoon.

Dev said the PubPal service, which is an extension of its existing service engagement platform, will generate revenue by levying a small fixed fee on each transaction.

In addition, PubPal records user data and can aid the 'Test and Trace' system, assisting pubs and venues to keep their clients safe and in line with new Government requirements.

"Alongside our key proprietary Educate platform, our Agency Services division continues to make real progress including substantial new client wins,” said Chris Jeffries, CEO of DEV.

Jeffries said the group expects the PubPal service to deliver significant long term cost efficiency, revenue benefits for operators and enhance the overall client service offering.

He added, “In the UK there are more than 48 000 pubs, with over 40% of those independent. We are confident that the PubPal represents a meaningful opportunity for the Group's Agency Services division further substantiated by the good recent platform volume uptake."
