Following yesterday's announcement of a solid 2021 recovery, strong revenues, and in-progress talks with US zoos, Immotion has today announced the signing of a three-year contract with Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium. The agreement will see the installation of the company's Gorilla Trek VR experience in a 24-seat theatre at the location in Pennsylvania.

Immotion (IMMO Follow | IMMO) announced the project was done in partnership with the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, the world's oldest gorilla conservation organization. The VR experience uses footage captured at the Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and follows a family of mountain gorillas, a type of immersive motion-platform 3D VR experience that is a world's first, and a remarkable achievement combining entertainment, education, and raising awareness of conservation efforts.

The Pittsburgh Zoo installation is set to go live this spring and entertain over 1 million annual visitors. As mentioned yesterday, talks with other US zoos are also in progress and expected to be finalised and announced soon. The company strongly believes expanding its business in this direction will reach an even bigger audience than it currently does through its aquarium installations.

Rod Findley, President, LBE & Group Commercial Director - Immotion said:

"We are thrilled to have partnered with Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium for our first zoo-based theatre. We're confident the partnership will be a huge win for the zoo, its patrons and for Immotion."

"Working hand in hand with Tara Stoinski, lead primatologist and CEO of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, was a dream come true for our documentary team. Tara's insight into the conservation issues and the intricacies of gorilla behavior provided us with an intimate and up-close understanding of mountain gorillas in the wild.  The result is a program that will engage, entertain and inspire visitors in a whole new way."

"We look forward to signing up more zoo partners in the coming weeks and months as we roll-out this seminal experience."

The news comes on the back of yesterday's strong 2021 report in which the company announced a 230% increase in revenues to £9.4m from £2.8m in 2020, and an increase of EBITDA profit to £0.9m from a £1.7m loss in 2020. Average weekly revenue per headset also rose to £441 compared to £329 in 2020. The company also announced it would spin out its home-based entertainment (HBE) division and Uvisan, in order to focus solely on its core location-based entertainment (LBE) business.
