Mineral exploration firm focused on its Bougouni Lithium Project in southern Mali, Kodal Minerals (KOD) FOLLOW, has been granted two new exploration licences, Fariedele and Sogola Nord.

The new licenses, valid for an initial three-year term, will replace the former Madina Licence area which was due for a final extension, securing the landholding for a further seven years.

The licenses, registered directly in the names of Kodal Minerals' subsidiaries, were applied for and approved following discussions with the Mali Government authorities and ensure the group maintains full control of the project.

Fariedele and Sogola Nord will cover approximately 150km2 to reach all areas of defined lithium mineralisation as well as those of identified prospective exploration prospects that were contained within the Madina Licence.

Kodal has since taken the opportunity to relinquish areas of lower priority that had previously been explored and rejected by the group’s geologists.

“The Madina Licence had been subject to a one-year extension period, and we took the opportunity to secure the ground and take the most important areas into the New Licence areas,” said Bernard Aylward, CEO of Kodal Minerals.

Additionally, the new licences are to exclude a small protected state forest, helping ensure no associated environmental issues as a result of the group’s application and grant of a future Mining Licence.

The company explained how they are continuing to finalise its mining licence application as well as its mining and processing development plan.

“The application is expected to be lodged following receipt of the approval of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment application that is currently awaiting final Ministerial signature,” commented Mr Aylward.

He added, “The New Licences have excluded an area of State Forest Reserve and this should make the final grant of the Mining Licence more efficient.”
