Kromek and Hardide receive Queen's Award for International Trade

Some UK companies are today celebrating the news that they have won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise, the highest royal accolade for success in business. 

The formal announcement was issued today from Her Majesty the Queen’s office to mark her 94th birthday and to honour British business.

Today, 220 national recipients were chosen, honouring their commitment to innovation, international trade, sustainable development and promoting opportunity. 

Those honoured are able to use the esteemed Queen's Awards emblem for the next five years. 

Amongst the winners, AIM-listed Kromek (AIM: KMK) FOLLOW and Hardide (AIM: HDD) FOLLOW were honoured in the international trade category. 

Kromek, a global supplier of detection technology, said it was recognised for its ‘outstanding’ growth in overseas sales, which has grown 52% in the three years to April 30, 2019.

International sales make up 84% of group sales as the company exports its radiation detection technologies to over 40 countries in Europe, North America, Asia and Australasia. 

“It is an honour to receive this prestigious award following a period of significant international growth for Kromek,” chief executive Arnab Basu said in a statement. 

He added, “We have secured contracts worth millions of pounds through our deepened relationships with governments and companies worldwide.” 

Meanwhile, Hardide received an award for its ‘outstanding’ short-term growth in overseas sales which increased by 152% over the three years to 30 September 2018. 

The surface coating technology provider said that during the period, 67% of its secured record overall revenues were international.

The group's main international market is North America and its customers include blue-chip companies such as Lockheed Martin, Airbus, BAE Systems and Leonardo Helicopters.

“The patented Hardide coating technology is being adopted by market-leading customers around the world to extend the life and optimise the performance of their components,” said Philip Kirkham, CEO of Hardide. 

He added, “Looking forward, we are confident that we will continue to grow our business in North America, while also exploring new international markets for our coatings."
