Seeing Machines (SEE) FOLLOW has launched a partnership with Toll Helicopters, a specialised mission-critical helicopter provider, to introduce a unique eye tracking technology trial as part of the Toll AW-139 Full Flight Simulator in Sydney, Australia.

The trial is based on Seeing Machines’ Crew Training System prototype which incorporates new eye tracking technology to provide aviation training instructors, pilots and crewmembers, with “intelligent, evidence based data to provide detailed insights into pilot scanning techniques and situational awareness.”

This latest trial builds on previous iterations conducting by Seeing Machines and Toll over the past 24 months. These earlier trials have gathered significant insights and tangible benefits for aviation teams.

For training instructors, this technology can help them observe crew instrument and broader cockpit scanning in real-time in the Full Flight Simulator environment.

The technology also supplies instructors with an assessment of what their trainees are looking at, which can be used to train and identify any missed information or attention distribution.

Darryl Humphries, AW139 Standards Manager and Flight Examiner, argued the tool is “remarkable.”

“You can observe, analyse and interpret the pilot's situational awareness. In addition, having the eye tracking auto-recorded for replay during training debriefs offers pilots a comprehensive review tool and the ability to self-remediate areas for improvement."
