Tekcapital (TEK Follow | TEK), an intellectual property investment group, announced today that Guident, one of its portfolio companies, has been developing an advanced connectivity and software product for autonomous vehicles (AVs), utilising CBRS radio spectrum.

Guident is collaborating with Airspan Networks on the project, which is in a testing phase in Boca Raton, Florida. The companies have successfully deployed a 5G private network using CBRS spectrum over a 3 square miles testing site. The two are developing and validating use cases that require low-latency, fast, reliable mobile networks, the most common being autonomous vehicle safety.

Airspan brings its proprietary AirSpeed system to the project, and Guident adds a software platform connected to its advanced AV remote monitoring and teleoperation solution (RMCC). The combination of the two technologies results in some of the lowest-latency camera-to-monitor connections at around 30 ms.

As a result of the test, Guident has filed for its eighth patent.

Tekcapital was up 1.53% in afternoon trading.

Harald Braun, Executive Chairman of Guident, commented:

"We believe this effort will be a significant step towards the adoption of an Open RAN Network architecture which allows both low latency and secure connectivity for autonomous vehicle ecosystems. Airspan's disruptive, stand alone, cloud-native open architecture is potentially transforming the way telecommunication networks are built, and is a critical infrastructure component for connected AVs. We are delighted to be working with Airspan to enhance the reliability and performance of our proprietary, autonomous vehicle remote monitoring and control center."
