Zenova (ZED Follow | ZED), a fire safety and thermal insulation provider, announced yesterday its products had been used in a major film production at Ridgeway Studios, UK.

This marked the first time Zenova products had been used on a live burn set, on an upcoming big budget production. The products in question were used in a fire sequence put together by Elements Special Effects, a premier UK-based special effects house. Bells and Two Tones Fire (B&TT), a major fire safety provider within the UK TV and film industry, also provided fire protection services for the shoot.

B&TT supervised further fire tests conducted for a Pinewood Studios production of another major film, for its producers and special effect teams. The tests demonstrated the effectiveness of the Zenova FP fire paint and WB wildfire barrier fluid, which B&TT had purchased from Zenova earlier in the year. A short video of the successful test can be seen here.

Nick Rideout, owner of Elements Special Effects, and floor supervisor on the day of the stunt commented:

"After initial tests we were so confident with the products that on the last shot we really went for it; we went bigger and longer than normal giving the director more time to ensure the perfect shot, saving time and money for the production with added environmental benefits. We had confidence in the Zenova products and peace of mind with Bells and Two Tones providing our fire cover should things get out of hand. We're glad to say the Zenova FP and WB worked flawlessly, the director got her shot, and the Bells and Two Tones fire crews were not needed."

Tony Crawley, CEO of Zenova, commented:

"TV and film is a multi-billion pound industry in the UK alone and invests a huge amount of time and money in the construction of TV and film sets at studios such as Pinewood. The use of Zenova's fire safety products on TV and film sets is making them safer from the risk of fire and helping protect the people who work on them. We anticipate this saving significant time and money for the industry as well as safety resulting in more significant sales for the Company's fire safety products in this sector."

Yesterday's announcement marked an important milestone for the company, as its signature products have now been given the nod by major film production studios, presenting opportunities for future large contracts.

In addition, Zenova announced in June that its Zenova infrared (IR) thermal insulation render had been selected by builder KC Cabins Solutions for use in its new modular eco-homes. The initial deal specified 250 eco-homes to start.

The development was exciting as it offered a highly effective and low-cost solution, tailored to the modular/pre-fabricated construction market. It is a growing market in the UK, seen as one answer to the ongoing housing crisis. Traditionally in prefabricated construction, space and cost are limiting factors, so high-quality insulation is not prioritised. Zenova's solution changes that equation, providing a cost-effective solution that is also visually appealing and enhances fire safety.

Investors have been cheering the company's recent milestones, sending ZED shares up 15.5% in the last 5 days, and up 60% since a recent slump in May. Shares are also up 7% YTD, defying the broader downturn in equities.
