easyHotel Plc (EZH.L) Announced, in its trading update for the six months ended 31 March 2019, that the Group's European franchised hotels performed less strongly than those in the UK, despite European hotel markets generally outperforming the UK. Trading is mixed on a country-by-country basis. As in the UK, overall market demand has softened in 2019. Further, new owned hotel openings at Milton Keynes (124 bedrooms) and our refurbished Old Street hotel (89 rooms) are well advanced. Both hotels and the 15,500 sq. ft. of self-contained office space at Old Street are expected to open this June, which will be earlier than we had expected. Already there is encouraging interest in leasing the offices.

easyHotel Plc (EZH.L) Announced, in its trading update for the first quarter of the current financial year to date, that despite the ongoing political and economic uncertainty which is affecting consumer confidence, particularly in the UK, the Group has continued to outperform both its competitive set and the wider hotel market, with total system sales up 31% and revenue up 60%. Moreover, owned hotels like-for-like Revpar was up by 11.2%, outperforming their competitive set by 5.2%. However, the Board expects that the 2019 financial year will be more challenging than 2018 and have decided to continue to drive revenue growth and brand recognition, at the expense of gross margin, through increasing the use of online travel agents (OTAs) as compared with prior periods.

The final agreement is subject to planning permission being granted and full legal documentation being agreed. The Group’s growth strategy focuses on the continued development and rollout of owned hotels that the Board believes will offer sustained earnings per share-enhancing returns. Alongside growth of the owned hotel portfolio, our franchise network will continue to be expanded, which increases our network without direct capital investment from the Group. Our successful share placing in October 2016 raised £38.0m (£36.7m after expenses) of additional equity capital. Alongside the £12.0m refinancing of an existing bank facility in November 2016, sufficient capital has been secured to finance further growth in the Group’s identified hotel pipeline in line with the Board’s strategy.
