UK menswear retailer Moss Bros said sales for the 23-week period to January 5 were just 0.6% ahead of last year and down 1% on a like-for-like basis. That’s despite the company reporting an improving trend across the first 10 weeks of the fourth quarter, with total sales up 3.8% compared to the same period last year. The retailer said its physical stores underperformed as a result of reduced customer footfall, while positive momentum for its e-commerce channel business, which is up 27.8% on the year, continued throughout the period. Moss Bros said it expects to deliver performance in line with the current revised market consensus of an adjusted loss of 0.6m.
