Bidstack (BIDS)

SHARE PRICE: 6.35p MARKET CAPITALISATION: £12.9m

Bidstack is a provider of native in-game advertising that is dynamic, targeted and automated, serving the global video games industry across multiple platforms. Its proprietary technology is capable of inserting adverts into natural advertising space within video games.

5 Reasons to add Bidstack (BIDS) to your Watchlist

THE GAMING MARKET IS VERY BIG AND GROWING FAST

The global video games market is forecast to be the world’s largest creative industry in 2018. Total revenues from the sales of video games in 2018 are forecast to be around $138 billion, up over 13% on 2017 and bigger than the global film, video on demand and music industries combined. The uptake of smartphones has been a key contributor to the accelerated growth of the games market, in terms of both engagement and revenues, over the last 10 years. Mobile gaming (combined smartphone and tablet gaming) is expected to generate $70.3 billion, accounting for just over half of global revenues, split approximately 80/20 between smartphones and tablets. Both console and PC games are also growing. There are an estimated 2.3 billion video gamers worldwide, around one-third of the world’s population play video games. In addition in the US watching gamers play video games is now bigger than viewing traditional spectator sporting events on TV. Approximately 46% of teenage video gamers are female, across all platforms, illustrating that the stereotype of male, teenage adolescents is misconceived. This broadens the brand appeal substantially and is of particular note given Bidstack’s ability to target advertising.

“In the span of a decade, mobile gaming will have grown from the smallest segment in 2012 to a 100-billion-dollar industry in 2021”.

PREMIUM PRODUCT

Bidstack’s technology means their offering is not the traditional, obtrusive, bpre / mid / post roll / banner advertising that users regards as a necessary unwanted hassle. The adverts have several benefits: NATURAL The key benefit of native in-game advertising over non-native variants (e.g. video rolls and banner ads) is that it appears authentic and ‘‘natural’’ to the environment and does not adversely affect the gamer’s experience. CAN’T BE BLOCKED The advertisements cannot be excluded with ad-blocking software and the gamer cannot and has no need to skip through the advertisement. Bidstack’s advertisements retain and can enhance the authenticity of the game’s artwork. FLEXIBLE CAMPAIGNS Using Bidstack’s technology, advertisers can rapidly change their campaigns in real time, in response to market trends and business needs. Video games publishers can connect to Bidstack’s software platform in a matter of days, or even hours, monetising their available advertising space quickly. FLEXIBLE PRICING Flexible pricing ensures that the available advertising opportunities can generate market driven revenues for games publishers and developers at all times. TARGETTED Advertisers can target the users they want to reach based on age, gender and location. Bidstack is able to display different advertisements to different users playing the same game so that adverts are delivered to the most relevant players to the advert, matching the advertiser’s campaign requirements. PLATFORM AGNOSTIC Bidstack’s software is platform-agnostic and works across traditional games consoles, PCs and laptops, and on tablets and mobile phones. ANALYTICS Bidstack is able to provide detailed campaign analytics to advertisers and gaming data to publishers. INVALIDATES PIRACY Because advertisements inserted into video games with Bidstack’s software will appear on pirated versions of those games and impressions generated on those pirated versions can be measured, publishers and developers will be able to monetise pirated copies of video games.

FIRST MOVER ADVANTAGE & NO REAL COMPETITION

The Directors believe that Bidstack will be the only group with the technology to insert native advertising directly into video games dynamically and in real time. There are no other providers of native in-game advertising whose business model is to control in-game advertising opportunities through exclusive deals with video games publishers and developers with the technology to fill those opportunities with high volume and targeted programmatic advertising.

BARRIERS TO ENTRY

Bidstack has developed significant proprietary technology which links directly from the programmatic advertising platforms to the video games. The buyer of advertising space is called the demand side of their business. Bidstack has agreements in place with the operators of a number of major programmatic advertising platforms which gives them access to approximately 150 integrated buy-side platforms representing thousands of brands and a substantial customer base to whom in-game advertising can be sold. In addition Bidstack sells in-game advertising direct to brands and has concluded early deals for Dominos, Vodafone and the NHS with a further pipeline of additional direct to brand deals. The Directors believe that creating a similar technology would take a significant amount of time and resource. On the supply side of the business. Bidstack have also entered into exclusive deals with four games publishers giving access to multiple games including Football Manager 2018. The contracts with games publishers are typically for three years for sole access to native in-game advertising opportunities in return for an agreed revenue share.

MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL BUSINESS MODEL

Its technology should enable video games publishers and developers to derive revenue from advertising which they would otherwise be unable to generate. It’s close to a no brainer for game publishers as it’s an extra revenue stream and it allows advertisers to accurately and effectively target a largely untapped market which does not adversely affect the gamer’s experience. In October 2017, Bidstack signed its first contract with digital game publisher, Sports Interactive (part of Sega Europe). The contract gave Bidstack exclusive access to a number of the virtual billboards in Football Manager 2018, 2019 and 2020. On a typical day, around 150,000 people play Football Manager, with an average time in the game of 4 hours per day. Based on evidence gathered during the trial phase, this generates around 25 million potential impressions per day. The Directors believe Football Manager 2018 has an advertising inventory worth over £100 million per year. Bidstack has agreed further exclusive contracts with other games publishers including: Tower Studios (Sociable Soccer) During the first-ever China International Import Expo (CIIE), held in Shanghai from Monday 5th to Saturday 10th November 2018 Tower Studios, who along with China’s sports game company Crazy Sports and Chinese mobile game company Migu Interactive Entertainment agreed on a deal to produce, license and distribute popular mobile games in China. The Game Wall (WarGate, Racers Squad and Eximus) for exclusive access to native advertising opportunities in selected games within their portfolio. Jon Hare CEO of Tower Studios said “We are thrilled to be able to partner up with such powerful publishing partners here in China. Crazy Sports and Migu Interactive Entertainment are truly supportive publishing partners and their affiliation with the Chinese Super League and China Mobile gives us access to the 100 million football fans here that use their live football services.”   Childish Things (Cricket Captain)   The Game Wall (WarGate, Racers Squad and Eximus) for exclusive access to native advertising opportunities in selected games within their portfolio. The Directors believe Bidstack has a strong pipeline of deals in advanced negotiation with other games publishers including:

How does it fit in with my research model, C. C. A. S. S. S. H. GREEN = POSITIVE BLACK = NEUTRAL RED = NEGATIVE

CAPITALISATION

I would ideally like this to be below £10m but it’s not far off and I’d expect to pay a premium for a company with first mover advantage in such a exciting market sector.

CHART

As they only listed in September there’s very little data to work off but the floated at 6p and its not far off that now.

ASSETS

Bidstack raised £3.5m on listing, which their broker, Peterhouse Capital, believe will take them through to profitability in 2020.

SHAREHOLDERS

The shares are quite tightly held. Over 26% are held by significant shareholders and over 25% are held by directors. James Draper the CEO holds 20.75%. Both James Draper (CEO) and Francesco Petruzzelli have 7,500,000 options at the Placing Price of 6p and up to 15,000,000 at 20p.

SIGNIFICANT MILESTONE

There’s no stated date but Bidstack haven’t released and news since their listing on the 19th September. They have already entered into exclusive deals with four games publishers. I believe that it is only a matter of time before they announce, either an update on trading or another deal as they have a strong pipeline of deals in advanced negotiation with other games publishers.

SIMPLICITY

The business model is brilliant in its simplicity.  Games publishers and developers achieve an extra revenue stream and it allows advertisers to accurately and effectively target a largely untapped market which does not adversely affect the gamer’s experience. Bidtack revenue share with the publishers and developers.

HEAD HONCHOS

James Draper – CEO & Founder Initiated Bidstack’s move into gaming space in 2017. Raised c. £1.2m in funding and secured its three-year contract with SEGA’s Football Manager title. Previously held senior commercial roles in advertising agencies and worked in marketing and advertising for clients in sports and b2b space. James owns 20.8% of the shares in issue at Admission. Francesco Petruzzelli – CTO & Co-Founder Created Bidstack’s core AI powered API technology which integrates with games titles. Heads its technical development studio across the UK, Latvia and Ukraine. Previously a consultant to blue-chip clients and national governments on software related issues. Also founded Whaleslide and a separate UK-based software development house. Fran owns 3.7% of the shares in issue at Admission. He also owns 22.3 million options. Simon Mitchell – Chief Commercial Officer A serial entrepreneur, having founded and successfully exited other early stage companies. He was an early investor in Bidstack and has followed his investment at every round. He oversees negotiations with game publishers and the development of ‘Bidstack labs’. Keren Tal – Head of Sales Has significant digital advertising experience, specifically in the programmatic environment. Spent eight years in mobile advertising, six at Apple where she launched the iAd network in EMEA and built the team and network. She led advertising campaigns for Omnicom, Essence and Publicis.   Like the biotech sector and resource sector, the tech sector has the ability to produce companies that can experience explosive share price action. I have been fortunate to pick 3 ten baggers in the last 3 years and two of the companies were in the tech sector, (the other in the resource sector). One of those tech stocks was, EVR Holdings based in the virtual reality music sector. The CEO said on an interview I conducted with him that the launch of their app was delayed because they were waiting for the market to grow in order for its size to be big enough to support their business model. It’s still questionable whether this has happened. With gaming this isn’t an issue, in fact on the contrary, it is the world’s largest creative industry. Total revenues are bigger than the global film, video on demand and music industries combined. The adverts, being natural and native enhance the gamers environment, making it more realistic, unlike traditional banner ads or pre-roll adverts that are detrimental to the gamer’s experience. As yet Bistack’s technology has no real competitors and it would take time to replicate. In the meantime they are signing exclusive contracts with game publishers, creating significant barriers to entry. With Bidstack’s technology game publisher’s can receive a significant extra revenue stream they wouldn’t have had and brands can accurately target a large audience they don’t yet have access to. This all seems a little too good to be true so what’s the catch? I honestly don’t know. Their broker Peterhouse Capital expect to see them achieve monthly profitability in October 2019 and be profitable for the full year in 2020. They also should have enough cash to see them to this expected milestone. Peterhouse Capital say they have based these projections on very conservative figures. They only downside here is on them not achieving these figures or what I think is more probably is slower revenue generation but this is just speculation on my part. Personally I can’t contain my enthusiasm for this company, I think their organic growth could be impressive and also see them as a genuine target for a big industry player. From this valuation I see blue sky potential but as always DO YOU OWN RESEARCH. Tlou Energy is focused on delivering Gas-to-Power solutions in Botswana and southern Africa to alleviate some of the chronic power shortage in the region. Tlou is developing projects using coal bed methane (“CBM”) natural gas. Botswana has a significant energy shortage and generally relies on expensive imported power and diesel generation to fulfil its power requirements. As 100% owner of the most advanced gas project in the country, the Lesedi CBM Project, Tlou Energy provides investors with access to a compelling opportunity using domestic gas to produce power and displace expensive diesel and imported power.

Emmerson (EML)

Hayden Locke, Chief Executive Officer of Emmerson (EML) discusses the results of its recently completed Scoping Study for the company’s Khemisset Potash Project located in northern Morocco.

The Project has a large JORC Resource Estimate (2012) of 311.4Mt @ 10.2% K2O and significant exploration potential with an accelerated development pathway targeting a low capex, high margin mine. Khemisset is perfectly located to capitalise on the expected growth of African fertiliser consumption whilst also being located on the doorstep of European markets. This unique positioning means the Project will receive a premium netback price compared to existing potash producers. The need to feed the world’s rapidly increasing population is driving demand for potash and Emmerson is well placed to benefit from the opportunities this presents.
