Tekcapital (AIM:TEK) FOLLOW said its 100% owned portfolio company, Guident, has filed an additional patent for its remote monitoring technology of autonomous vehicles, delivery drones and robots.

The intellectual property investment firm said it has filed U.S. patent application #17025152 entitled: "System and Methods for Remote Monitoring of a Vehicle, Robot or Drone."

This new patent teaches methods and procedures for improving the real-time, intelligent monitoring and control of AV's and land-based delivery drones, said the UK-based group.

The application, which aims to enhance the safety of autonomous vehicles, robots, or drones, is directed to a smart remote monitoring device and remote monitoring control centre that monitors the incident risk level and remotely takes control of the device.

Guident has both developed and acquired seven patents and applications ‘which enables advanced teleoperation for AV's and drones to enhance customer safety and security whilst providing a reliable, low latency connection to any advanced mobile network solution.’

Shares in Tekcapital have more than doubled since lows of 5.50p in April and opened flat at 12.5p this morning immediately following the announcement.

According to Allied Market Research, “the autonomous vehicle market is expected to reach $556 billion by 2026 with a CAGR of 39%,” Tekcapital reiterated this morning to investors.

Alongside a surge in demand for contactless or "touch-free" delivery due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Guident believes this increase will accelerate the roll-out of land-based delivery drones for food and medicines to improve their availability and reduce delivery costs.

Harald Braun, Chairman & CEO of Guident said he believes that Guident’s technology will facilitate safe teleoperation capabilities of autonomous vehicles, robots and drones.

He said the technology will enable vehicle manufacturers and fleet operators to comply with local laws requiring remote monitoring and control for driverless autonomous vehicles.
