Live data company for machine learning and AI, WANdisco (WAND) FOLLOW has secured a contract with one of Africa’s most established IT companies, Micro-D.

The $3m contract will see Micro-D as the distributor for WANdisco’s suite of products, enabling cloud migration and continuous data availability and consistency for customers over a 3 year period.

As Micro-D leverages its network of resellers across Africa, the company will target high-growth use-cases including machine learning and AI, with the potential for expansion.

The contract marks a significant entry for WANdisco into the high growth African market, the company explained, with Fusion to be implemented across major enterprises in Africa.

Data growth has become a CIO priority, with Africa’s strategic importance demonstrated through the recently opened Azure availability zone in South Africa.

The planned AWS region in South Africa in 2020 further reaffirms the demand for cloud services in the region.

Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of WANdisco, David Richards, said there is a clear need to prioritise data consistency and availability, marking it as “a global trend” that is driven by the need for enterprises to leverage data as their key asset via machine learning and AI.

“Africa is clearly a growth region and I see further potential in leveraging our embedded Azure offering which we continue to expect will be available and revenue generating in early 2020, if not even earlier in this current 2019 year,” he added further.

WANdisco Fusion has been dubbed the only solution able to allow organisations to move large volumes of data with “consistent and continuous” availability that meets regulatory requirements.

This technology ensures customers can leverage the impact of their IT investment to support data growth without growing their IT budget.

“We are further encouraged by WANdisco's collaborative approach to the African marketplace and their commitment to assisting customers to achieve desired results,” added Mike Perry, Managing Director of Micro-D.
