Versarien 44p £74.7m (VRS.L) Versarien has been awarded a legally binding £5 million loan facility by Innovate UK Loans Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of UK Research and Innovation. Innovate UK has been running an extended pilot innovation loans programme over the past three years with £75 million committed to the scheme with normal loan amounts of up to £1million. The innovation loans are targeted at UK small or medium-sized enterprises (SME) that want to scale up and grow by developing new or improved products, processes or services , as well as late-stage research and development projects that have not yet reached the point of commercialisation. The UK Government, via Innovate UK, has agreed to the provision of the £5 million Loan to Versarien , the first of such magnitude by Innovate UK specifically for a project named G SCALE, (an acronym for Graphene-Seat, Concrete, Arch, Leisure, Elastomer) which is designed to enable Versarien to significantly increase its manufacture of quality assured graphene. #VRS
Versarien* (#VRS LN) 43p, Mkt cap £73m – Innovate fund extends £5m to Versarien The UK government has agreed to loan £5m to Versarien through the Innovate fund. This is the first £5m Innovate award with loans normally up to £1m. The funds are specifically for the G SCALE ‘Graphene-Seat, Concrete, Arch, Leisure, Elastomer’ project. The arches are designed to work on the railways to enable better signalling between trains, particularly in tunnels. Versarien is working on graphene enhanced arches which are able to fit in narrow London underground and other tunnels while carrying sensors for signalling. Aecom is able to 3D print the arches: Graphene is also corrosion resistant and should help extend the lifespan of each arch in corrosive underground conditions. Versarien will use the funds to significantly increase the manufacture of ‘quality assured’ graphene and to ‘enable market supply of commercial quantities of the graphene-enhanced materials’. Versarien will start to repay the loan 45 months after drawdown. The loan carries a 7.4%pa interest rate with half the interest deferred to the first repayment. Conclusion: The Innovate fund does not give up its government money easily and has done significant due diligence on Versarien and its G SCALE project for the provision of the loan. Versarien Plc (VRS.L) Announced, in its corporate update, that the last three months have seen significant progress by Young-Graphene (Beijing) Technology Company Limited (YG) to procure the funding for the first company share subscription. However, the recent and ongoing lockdown restrictions in both China and the UK, coupled with the impact of political events in Hong Kong have understandably had an impact on the process and the ability of YG to complete the first Versarien share subscription by 30 June 2020. The work will focus on the use of graphene and similar materials for use in wiring for next-generation aerospace engines. The work will use vapor deposition to coat materials to reduce weight and improve electrical performance while improving corrosion resistance. Vapor deposition is a relatively inexpensive process which is suitable for mass production and offers advantages over many other coating processes. It’s use for graphene layering and coating could lead to significant advances in the performance of the materials it bonds with. Graphene’s unique properties offer significant potential benefits to the wiring and other engine components. Conclusion: The news that Rolls Royce is coming on board with a program to test graphene for aerospace engine components is exciting. The initial programme of work will use the state-of-the-art chemical vapour deposition (CVD) equipment located within the GEIC.
