Tekcapital’s (TEK) FOLLOW portfolio company Salarius has filed an additional patent for “Improved Low Sodium Salt Composition” for its MicroSalt product. Shares are up nearly 2% following the news.

CEO of Salarius Victor Hugo Manzanilla argued that “in addition to MicroSalt's current disruptive technology which helps consumers reduce sodium consumption,” the new patent would represent “a step forward to help solve a critical challenge for snack manufacturers: improving salt adhesion to their food during shipping and display."

The issue of salt adhesion becomes one of increased manufacturing costs and sodium levels if not properly addressed, as producers will have to supplement the salt in their products just to ensure there will still be some salt attached to the snack when it reaches consumers.

The patent application is directly aimed at improving this adhesion, as MicroSalt is already shown to deliver a traditionally salty taste with “approximately 50% less sodium.”
